Notes

Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is a tree for specimen planting, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It stays evergreen all year and has green and white foliage. The broad shape grows at a moderate rate, so give it plenty of room to spread.

Pairs well with Mugo pine, Heather, and Praying Hands hosta.

Native range

Japan and Taiwan.
