Notes

'Indian Steel' Indian grass (Sorghastrum nutans 'Indian Steel') is a grass for pollinator gardens and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, clay soil. It forms a clumping stand with tan-yellow blooms in late summer and early to late autumn. Deer tend to browse other plants first. The foliage turns color in fall, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit the plant.

Pairs well with New England aster, Prairie Sun rudbeckia, and Little bluestem.
