Notes

'Bluebird' Indian grass (Sorghastrum nutans 'Bluebird') is a grass for pollinator gardens, rain gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, clay soil. Tan-yellow blooms appear in early to late autumn, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit them. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. The clumping mound reaches 36 to 60 inches tall and turns color in fall.

Pairs well with Black-eyed Susan, Big bluestem, and Gladiator ornamental onion.
