Notes

Jerusalem sage (Phlomis russeliana) is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Buttery yellow flowers line tall spikes, mostly in early summer, and they attract a variety of pollinators. The fuzzy semi-evergreen foliage makes a good, low winter ground cover, and you can leave the seedheads standing to catch the frost. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Prairie dropseed, Common milkweed, and Big bluestem.
