Notes

King of the agaves (Agave nickelsiae) is a succulent for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The evergreen rosette stays about 24 inches tall and spreads 24 to 36 inches. Birds and hummingbirds visit it, and it tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Stonecrop, Elfin mother of thyme, and Rozanne crane's-bill.
