Large-leaved aster (Eurybia macrophylla) is a perennial for ground cover, shade gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The heart-shaped leaves are 4 to 8 inches wide, and the foliage is showier than the flowers. Violet to pale blue flowers open in open clusters and attract butterflies and bees.
