Notes

'Meader' American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana 'Meader') is a tree for food gardens, specimen planting, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is self-fertile and grown for fresh eating when soft, syrups, jellies, ice creams, and pies. Deer rarely make it their first choice. The leaves turn red and orange in fall.

Pairs well with Shagbark hickory, Big bluestem, Chokeberry, and False indigo.
