Notes
'Mighty Chocolate Cherry' Chinese astilbe (Astilbe chinensis 'Mighty Chocolate Cherry') is a perennial. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade. Cherry-red flower plumes open in succession from early to late summer on chocolate-red stems, and bees visit them. Rabbits tend to nibble other plants first. The fern-like, dark green foliage stays attractive all season.
Pairs well with Frances Williams hosta, Autumn Fire sedum, and Amazing Grace tulip.
