Notes

Missouri gooseberry (Ribes missouriense) is a shrub for food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average moisture. It grows 2 to 4 feet tall and wide, with spiny stems and exfoliating red-brown bark. Greenish-white flowers open in mid to late spring and give way to small purplish black berries that are grown for jams and pies. The leaves turn yellow-orange, red, and then purple in fall.

Pairs well with Pink Lemonade blueberry, Spiderwort, and American persimmon.
