Notes

Alpine currant (Ribes alpinum) is a shrub for hedges, borders, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. It forms a dense mound, and greenish yellow flowers draw butterflies and birds. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It also handles drought and salt.

Pairs well with Golden Globe American arborvitae, Rosea lily of the valley, Charm peony, and Red fescue.

Native range

Northern Europe to Russia.
