Notes

Netted chain fern (Woodwardia areolata) is a fern for ground cover, shade gardens, and woodland or naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet soil of most types. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Bronzy fiddleheads appear in early spring, and slender rhizomes spread to form a colony, so give it room.

Pairs well with Bellwort, Canadian white violet, and Limelight Prime panicle hydrangea.

Native range

Eastern and southern North America.
