Notes

'Nigra' hollyhock (Alcea rosea 'Nigra') is a perennial for borders, low maintenance gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun, average moisture, and sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Tall spikes reach 60 to 96 inches and carry dark maroon, almost black blooms from early to late summer. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Radiance cosmos, Profusion zinnia, and Red fescue.
