Notes

'Novacleein' sweet pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia 'Novacleein') is a shrub for borders, pollinator gardens, hedges, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It forms a dense, fragrant shrub that blooms from early to late summer, and butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit the flowers. It sits low on the menu for deer. It also tolerates salt.

Pairs well with Goldsturm black-eyed Susan, White Swan coneflower, and Sensitive fern.
