Notes
'Onyx and Pearls' beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis 'Onyx and Pearls') is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The dark foliage and stems set off pale purple to nearly white flowers in spring and summer, and hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees visit the blooms. It sits low on the menu for deer. It grows 36 to 42 inches tall.
Pairs well with Butterfly milkweed, Prairie dropseed, and PowWow White coneflower.
