Notes

Pin cherry (Prunus pensylvanica) is a tree for pollinator gardens and woodland plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. White flowers open in spring and early summer, and birds eat the small red cherries. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Branches break in ice storms, so plant it away from walkways.

Pairs well with Little bluestem, Northern red oak, and Pussytoes.
