Notes

Pincushion beardtongue (Penstemon procerus) is a perennial for meadows. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil. Small blue and purple flowers bloom from early to late summer and again in early autumn, and hummingbirds and bees visit the tubular blooms. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Once established, it is drought tolerant and low-maintenance.

Pairs well with Nodding onion, Foxtail barley, and Compass plant.
