Notes

Pine-needle beardtongue (Penstemon pinifolius) is a shrub for borders, containers, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. It grows in low bushy mounds of narrow, needle-like leaves that stay evergreen. Scarlet red tubular flowers appear from early to late summer and draw hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees.

Pairs well with Ornamental onion, Purple lovegrass, and Hoary vervain.
