Notes

Hoary vervain (Verbena stricta) is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, meadows, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Small blue-purple flowers ring each upright spike, and bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit them. Deer tend to pass it by. Small mammals and prairie chickens eat the seeds.

Pairs well with Blue grama, Blanket flower, and Eastern columbine.
