Notes

Plume poppy (Macleaya cordata) is a perennial for borders, back-of-the-bed screening, and bold foliage accents. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. It grows 60 to 96 inches tall and 24 to 48 inches wide, so give it plenty of room. Creamy white flowers open in mid to late summer.

Pairs well with Nepeta, Alexander Fleming peony, and Japanese spirea.

Native range

China, Japan, and Taiwan.
