Notes

Japanese spirea (Spiraea japonica) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It grows fast and forms a dense mound with fragrant pink blooms that attract butterflies. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It also tolerates drought once settled in.

Pairs well with Miss Kim lilac, Columbine, Grape hyacinth, and Dwarf Alberta spruce.

Native range

Japan and China.
