Notes

'Prairie Princess' ironweed (Vernonia 'Prairie Princess') is a perennial for borders, meadows, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry soil. Purple flowers open in early to mid autumn and bring late season nectar for butterflies and bees. Rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. The mounded plants reach 24 to 48 inches tall, so give them room to spread.

Pairs well with Ashy sunflower, Purple lovegrass, and Partridge pea.
