Notes

'Purple Candles' Chinese astilbe (Astilbe chinensis 'Purple Candles') is a perennial for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. It blooms from early to late summer, and butterflies and bees visit the flowers. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Plants grow 35 to 47 inches tall and 12 to 24 inches wide.

Pairs well with Obsidian coral bells, Siebold's hosta, and Caradonna sage.
