Notes
'Purple Robe' bristly locust (Robinia 'Purple Robe') is a tree for pollinator gardens, hedges, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or clay soil. It grows 30 to 40 feet tall and bears fragrant, violet purple flowers in spring and again in summer. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit it, and it tolerates drought.
Pairs well with Common milkweed, Tulip tree, and Flowering quince.
