Notes

Flowering quince (Chaenomeles speciosa) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Scarlet to red flowers open in early to late spring and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds. It handles drought and salt well. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Chokeberry, Hyssop, and Clematis.
