Notes

Red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) is a tree for low maintenance planting. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full sun to part shade and moist to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its prop roots grow down from the branches and form a tangled mass. The seedlings sprout on the tree and drop into the water. Its thick roots also help hold back erosion along shorelines.

Pairs well with Buttonwood, Black mangrove, and Sea ox-eye.
