Notes
'Rubella' skimmia (Skimmia japonica 'Rubella') is a shrub for shade gardens, borders, foundation plantings, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist soil. It is an evergreen with a dense habit and a slow growth rate. The spring flowers are fragrant and attract birds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.
Pairs well with Lenten rose, Lady fern, White bigleaf hydrangea, and Liberty hosta.
