Notes

'Rubra' spicebush (Lindera benzoin 'Rubra') is a shrub for pollinator gardens, hedges, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet soil. Brick red flowers open in early to late spring and are fragrant. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit it. It grows slowly into a rounded shape, so give it time to fill in as a hedge.

Pairs well with Inkberry, Switchgrass, Sedge, and Ostrich fern.
