Ruby banana (Musa 'Ruby') is a perennial for annual beds. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. Its dark maroon-red stems and leaves have chartreuse spots and streaks, and it reaches about 8 feet tall. After a cold frost, cut it back to 24 to 36 inches and add a layer of mulch.
Pairs well with Angel wings, Dragon Wing Red begonia, and Sugar cane.
