Notes

Scarlet sage (Salvia coccinea) is an annual for borders, containers, and pollinator gardens. This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Red to pinkish flowers open in loose, widely spaced spikes on square stems. Hummingbirds, bees, and other insects come for the nectar. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It reseeds easily, and you can trim and deadhead it now and then to keep it bushy.

Pairs well with Indian blanket, Deergrass, and Mexican daisy.
