Notes

Screwbean mesquite (Strombocarpa pubescens) is a shrub for low maintenance planting and xeriscape. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Pale-yellow flowers draw bees, and the tightly coiled tan pods give the plant its name. It sits low on the menu for deer. Thin and shape it for tree form, or tip-prune it to make it denser.

Pairs well with Desert lavender, Creosote bush, Blue paloverde, and Desert willow.
