Notes

'Spartan' rose (Rosa 'Spartan') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and loamy or clay soil. It grows upright with dark green leaves and fragrant orange-red blooms. Bees visit the flowers from late spring into early autumn. Eugene S. Boerner bred it in 1956.

Pairs well with Inkberry, Black-eyed Susan, and June hosta.
