Notes
Turkscap (Malvaviscus arboreus) is a shrub for borders, pollinator gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Bright-red, pendant flowers never fully open, and their petals form a loose tube that hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees visit. Deer rarely make it their first choice. It also handles dry spells.
Pairs well with Trumpet honeysuckle, Southern magnolia, and Boxwood.
