Notes

Algerian iris (Iris unguicularis) is a perennial for borders, containers, winter interest, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. The fragrant flowers open in winter, and they can come again in spring and autumn. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Japanese quince, Mondo grass, and Society garlic.

Native range

Africa and Mediterranean.
