Notes

American linden (Tilia americana) is a tree for specimen planting, shade, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. The fragrant flowers draw so many bees that people call it the Bee-tree. It often sprouts at the base, so you can expect a clump of trunks over time. The dense shade limits what you can grow beneath it.

Pairs well with Paper birch, Bunchberry, Blue bead lily, and Lowbush blueberry.

Native range

Central and eastern North America.
