Notes

Appalachian barren strawberry (Waldsteinia fragarioides) is a perennial for ground cover, woodland gardens, borders, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. Its evergreen leaves form a low mat, and yellow flowers rise on leafless stalks in spring and summer. It sits low on the menu for deer.

Pairs well with White wood aster, Wild geranium, Bellwort, and Pinxterbloom azalea.
