Notes

Aster (Symphyotrichum anomalum) is a perennial for borders, meadows, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average soil. Violet-purple flowers open in mid to late summer and again in early to late autumn. It grows 30 to 36 inches tall and spreads 24 to 30 inches, so give it room.

Pairs well with Feather reed grass, Sea holly, and Chinkapin oak.
