Notes
'Astra Blue' balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus 'Astra Blue') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, and accents. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It forms a clumping mound only 3 to 6 inches tall and wide, with blue flowers in early to late spring and again in early to late summer.
Pairs well with Karl Rosenfield peony, Royal Standard hosta, and Cheerfulness daffodil.
