Notes

'Avondale' blue wood aster (Symphyotrichum cordifolium 'Avondale') is a perennial for shade gardens, borders, and autumn flower arrangements. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry soil. Small light blue flowers with lemon yellow centers that age to red cover its arching stems in early fall, when the hostas are fading. In sun with even moisture, the plants stand more upright.

Pairs well with Ruby Spice sweet pepperbush, Ebony spleenwort, and Liverleaf.
