Notes

'Chieftain' blue wood aster (Symphyotrichum cordifolium 'Chieftain') is a perennial for pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. It blooms in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit it.

Pairs well with PowWow White coneflower, Western sword fern, and Nodding onion.
