Notes
'Barcelona Red' dianthus (Dianthus barbatus 'Barcelona Red') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. The red and bicolor flowers are fragrant and make a high-quality cool-season cut flower. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit the blooms.
Pairs well with Little bluestem, Ox-eye daisy, and Casa Blanca lily.
