Notes

'Baronne de Mello' pear (Pyrus communis 'Baronne de Mello') is a tree for food gardens and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is grown for fresh eating, and the fruit ripens late in the season. Van Mons bred it in the 1830s. White spring flowers draw butterflies, bees, and birds, and you need a second pear nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with Plum, Gladiator ornamental onion, and Hairy aster.
