Notes

'Kieffer' pear (Pyrus communis 'Kieffer') is a fruit tree for borders, pollinator gardens, and food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The fruit is grown for fresh eating, canning, and cooking, and it ripens late in the season. The flesh is crisp and coarse, and the tree is a heavy cropper. Peter 'Kieffer' bred it in the 1850s.

Pairs well with Black raspberry, Common comfrey, Cutleaf coneflower, and Crimson clover.
