Notes

Beach strawberry (Fragaria chiloensis) is a fruit for food gardens and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Runners spread it into patches, so it binds sandy ground well. White flowers give way to large red berries on female plants. It sits low on the menu for deer.

Pairs well with Seaside daisy, Yellow sand verbena, and Sweet violet.
