Notes

Beavertail cactus (Opuntia basilaris) is a succulent for borders, containers, and xeriscape beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. Tiny barbed bristles cover the gray-green pads, so handle it with care. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Bright magenta flowers can nearly cover the plant.

Pairs well with Soap aloe, Kiwi aeonium, Desert spoon, and White sage.
