Notes

California wild rose (Rosa californica) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Fragrant pink flowers are followed by red hips, and bees, butterflies, and birds visit it. Barbed prickles make the shrub impenetrable, so it works well as a barrier. It can get fungal problems, so give it good air flow.

Pairs well with Common snowberry, Western azalea, and Western redbud.
