Notes

Carolina rose (Rosa Carolina) is a shrub for borders, hedges, pollinator gardens, and meadows. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Fragrant pink flowers appear singly or in small clusters, and it spreads freely by suckers, so give it room. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. The hips ripen from dark green to bright red.

Pairs well with Switchgrass, Serviceberry, Big bluestem, and Buttonbush.

Native range

Eastern and central North America.
