Notes

Serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis) is a tree for borders, specimen planting, pollinator gardens, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. White blooms open before the leaves emerge, and small crimson fruit follows. Birds and other wildlife feed on the plant, and the fall foliage turns orange to rusty-red. Deer tend to pass it by.

Pairs well with Spicebush, Cinnamon fern, Sedge, and Red twig dogwood.
