Notes

Cascade penstemon (Penstemon serrulatus) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to wet soil of most types. Deep blue to purple tubular flowers bloom from early to late summer. Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies visit them. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Sensitive fern, Smooth hydrangea, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
