Notes

Chinese wingnut (Pterocarya stenoptera) is a tree for shade garden use. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun, average moisture, and clay soil. It grows fast and can reach 50 to 70 feet tall and wide. It has a multi-stemmed habit, so give it plenty of room. Light green blooms open from spring into early summer, and the tree tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Chinese pistache, Wild geranium, Sedge, and Coralbells.
