Notes

'Commander' peony (Paeonia 'Commander') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The deep crimson flowers are fragrant and turn somewhat purple with age. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Archie M. Brand bred it, and the foliage is lush.

Pairs well with Creeping phlox, Prairie dropseed, and Nodding onion.
